Clinical Reflexology

Reflexology is a soothing, non-invasive complementary therapy carried out on bare feet or hands. I will use a number of techniques to activate points on the feet, applying pressure with my fingers and thumbs. Many clients are curious but initially worried about ticklish feet. I can assure you it is not tickly, but a different kind of touch sensation – many clients fall asleep! It is important for me to mention reflexology is not a foot massage – it is much more.

Benefits of Clinical Reflexology

I use a variety of techniques to work reflex points over the feet to help reduce and lessen pain and discomfort from various issues within the body. Stress can lead to inflammation with the increased levels of cortisol. Stress and inflammation can be leading causes of issues and areas of discomfort. I work holistically and have been trained to look at associated symptoms to find a way forward for every client.

Stress

Stress can create many issues and imbalances in the body. Reflexology can give the client a mood boost and lift the way they are feeling. Clients talk about “feeling better” after a treatment. Reflexology is a positive boost for nervous systems needing to reset. Reflexology can be very helpful to those with mental health issues too such as anxiety.

Improved Circulation

Stress restricts circulation as the blood flow is focused on the main organs, diverting away from other areas. Reflexology can improve and boost circulation which can positively impact on the digestive system.

Digestive Issues

Some clients report an improvement in IBS symptoms and less pain in this area. Reflexology encourages the body to switch to the parasympathetic nervous system (PNS) or rest and digest mode. Reflexology is said to help with constipation, gently encouraging the bowels to clear. Therefore, naturally encouraging the body to detox.

Migraines & Headaches

Regular reflexology treatments can help to reduce pain and / or frequency of migraines and headaches Working reflex points around the head, neck, shoulders and spine can help lesson the pain and intensity of headaches and migraines.

Menopause Symptoms & PMS

Reflexology can help balance the endocrine system. Many reflexology clients plan regular treatments, feeling it soothes symptoms such as anxiety, headaches, general aches and low mood.

Aids Sleep

Along with deep relaxation, clients report a deep, restful sleep with more energy the morning after a treatment.

Reflexology is a proactive complementary therapy and can be used as a preventative measure in a person’s healthcare toolkit. Complementary therapies work alongside, not instead of professional medical care.

History

Reflexology is an ancient therapy, evolving from hand and foot massage believed to promote good health. The feet are a map of the body’s systems and organs. Across the world, there are surviving ancient artefacts and documents of a type of reflexology practiced in Egypt, China, Africa, America and Indian for over 2,500 years.

What to Expect

You will be on a massage couch or lafuma, well supported with pillows. I only require your socks to be removed. I have plenty of blankets and have a heated under blanket for chilly days.

Information

Please let me know if you have any serious conditions, skin conditions, acute pain or undergoing treatment for cancer. Clients may also experience an emotional release, and this is completely fine, I can hold space and support you. Please let me know if you have any weight concerns. If you have a fungal infection or verruca I can wear gloves to prevent direct contact.

Products

I use vegan and environmentally friendly Smol to wash and condition my towels and blankets. I use locally produced Soapery21 linen spray to finish laundering my linen.

I love using Songbird balm, it gives the right amount of grip without feeling oily. I tend to use the vegan blend, and the company are phasing out using nut oil. The balms are perfectly blended, uplifting without being overpowering.

Aftercare

After a treatment you may feel as if you need to go to the toilet more often or your nose might run. This is a healing response. Please drink a sensible amount of water, avoid alcohol and take it easy afterwards.
